Only the end of the world again.

Who: Even and any who stumble upon him.
What: Applying the scientific method to existential panic.
Where: Even's Station of Awakening, and possibly others.
Warnings: None.

There was nothing but darkness, boiling consuming ravenous darkness, pouring over all the world, pouring over him, devouring him -

He opened his eyes.

His reaction might be considered somewhat atypical. "Not again!"

This time, this time was supposed to be different. They were smarter now, wiser now, trying hard to be better now. That was supposed to count for something. This was not supposed to happen again!

He was not going to fall apart. He was going to be rational, and try to understand what was happening.

Hypothesis: he had lost his heart and was a Nobody again. Experimental process: try to feel something and see if it works. The part of his mind that was always watching noted that he was hyperventilating in a manner consistent with a panic attack. Panic was an emotion. Even if it were not, on the grounds of rational basis - yes. He was feeling a great deal of emotion. Conclusion: he was not a Nobody. At least that was something.

Hypothesis: he was dead and located in some afterlife. Experimental process: attempt to interact with definitely living matter. Unfortunately, he couldn't see anything that qualified. Wherever he was, with nothing visible but the platform beneath his feet, and that platform - He looked down for the first time and promptly wished he hadn't.

Hypothesis: he was in some other place, possibly inside his own heart, in which case his body... Experimentation first, implications later! Experimental process: make contact with some other consciousness.

He peered out into the void. "Aeleus! Dilan! Ienzo! Is anybody here?"
